Xbox 360 slim or one of the old xbox?

i want to buy my first xbox 360,i want one that can play backups of games,because xbox games are not avaible in my country,also i downloaded someg ames that pass 4.7 gb,which is the larget size that you can get in my country,so is there a way to play them by using an external HDD,like on the ps3?
