I have a major blockage in my water pipes causing waste to backup, is Roto-Rooter any good?

They Worked for me but man they were expensive over 400.00. Someone was flushing some baby wipes down my Toilet. It was easily 40-50 feet down the Pipe so a cheep snake would have never gotten it. if you are at all mechanically inclined you could rent a Professional snake from lowes or home depot I have to think that would be less expensive.
